Capturing two of the heroes among us
From Halifax, Nova Scotia photographer Peter Leverman:
I thought you might consider doing a piece on this editorial assignment I shot for People Magazine. I photographed an elderly couple at their home near Truro, Nova Scotia for a segment called “Heroes Among Us.” Not only did it run in the U.S. and Italian editions of People, the image has just won awards with Communication Arts and Archive 200 Best Photographers Worldwide. It is a real feel-good story and I was pleased to be a part of it.
Here’s the description:
Nova Scotia couple Allen and Violet Large won $11 million in the lottery and gave it all away. Despite living in a very modest old farmhouse and driving a 1987 Dodge Diplomat, Violet was quoted as saying “Money can’t buy happiness. We have everything we need; I have Allen, and he has me.” As a photographer, I tried to focus on the emotional connection between these two inspiring people.
