Portfolio Peek: The Illustrations of Jode Thompson
Available exclusively to photographers and illustrators to promote their talents to potential clients, Applied Arts Portfolios is one of our most popular online offerings. With our “Portfolio Peek” series, we’ll be picking one photographer or illustrator from the site to promote on the Wire each week. This time around, we’re featuring retro-style illustrator Jode Thompson.
Thompson began her career as an art director at various agencies, until she decided to start her own studio in the late 1980s, focusing on design and illustration. In the mid 1990s she finally made the leap to becoming a full-time illustrator, originally doing all of her work by hand, and then eventually switching to working completely digitally. “Going digital has changed my business in many ways, the best of which is that I can work from wherever I choose to and be connected with clients all over the world,” explains Thompson. “Now I work mostly from my home studio in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains and from my summer home on the Shuswap Lake in British Columbia.”
