2011 STUDENT AWARDS HOW TO ENTER

EXTENDED DEADLINE: MAY 27, 2011

Entries submitted before April 29, 2011 will receive 5% discount!

NOTE: Hard-copy entries are no longer accepted because all judging will take place online. All files must be uploaded at time of entry. If you are entering a Website, a URL must be included on your entry form.

STEP ONE - THE ENTRY FORM

  • ALL entrants must complete an online entry form. When filling in your contact details, it is very important to provide a telephone number and e-mail address that you access regularly, outside of school. All winners will be notified after the finish of the regular school year and it is crucial that you are available to provide the images we need for print. Credits and a description must also be submitted at the entry stage. This information will be used for reproduction in the magazine if your entry wins.
  • For series entries, only ONE form needs to be submitted per series. Please put all the titles in the “Title” field, separated by a slash between each one.
  • If you are entering an image as both a Single and as part of a Series, a duplicate image with its own online entry form and entry fee must be submitted.
  • You can now review your entries online before making final payment, to be sure all information is accurate, or come back later to add more entries by following the instructions on the online form. To review your entries, visit www.appliedartsmag.com/myentriesS, using the e-mail address provided on your entry form. Once you have finalized your entry with payment, you can no longer access your entries.

IMPORTANT: If your work incorporates someone else’s imagery, get permission for its use, when possible, especially if you are a winner. It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure that copyright is not infringed.

STEP TWO - DIGITAL FILE UPLOAD

  • Once you have filled out the online form for an entry, you will be asked to upload the entry digitally. Follow the instructions on how to do this. Hard-copy entries are no longer accepted, because all judging will now take place online. For a Single entry, you may upload one file. For a Series entry, up to three images may be uploaded, and for a Complete entry, up to six images may be uploaded as set out in the examples found in the Categories section.
  • Digital images should be submitted in JPEG format at 72 dpi in RGB (not CMYK). Files should not exceed 2MB.
  • Radio entries should be submitted in MP3 format, 128kpbs bit rate. For series, please include one second between each spot. Files should not exceed 3MB.
  • Television entries should be submitted in QuickTime format (.MOV), compressed using H.264 codec to 640x480 pixels. For series, edit spots together and include one second of black between each. Files should not exceed 5MB.
  • For Websites, a URL must be included in your entry form. So Websites should be live until the end of July, 2011 for judging purposes.
  • For Online Animation, Game Design & Development, Digital Visual Effects, Digital Character Animation or Broadcast Graphics entries, if your entry is not interactive, files can be supplied in QuickTime format (.MOV). If your entry is interactive, it should be available for viewing online and a URL must be included in your entry form. Websites should be live until the end of July, 2011 for judging purposes. Files should not exceed 5MB.

Note: If you are selected as a winner, you will be notified by e-mail and asked to send in high-resolution files.

STEP THREE - PAYMENT

  • Payments can be made by Visa, MasterCard, American Express (available for Canadian entrants only), Interac, cheque and money orders. For teachers paying on behalf of a group of students, please contact Carrie Martin, awards@appliedartsmag.com or by phone, 416-510-0909, ext. 32, and you will be given a School Group Submission Code that can be used by your students to finalize their entries.
  • If paying by cheque or money order, make it payable to Applied Arts Inc. For U.S. and international entries, please submit fees in US funds. Please include a copy of your e-mail confirmation with your payment by the entry deadline of May 21, 2010. If payment is received after that date, entries will not be considered complete and may not be included in judging.

INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS REGARDING GROUP SUBMISSIONS

For teachers paying on behalf of a group of students, please contact Carrie Martin, awards@appliedartsmag.com or by phone, 416-510-0909, ext. 32, and you will be given a School Group Submission Code that should be used by your students. You must then relay this code to your students, which they will use to finalize their entries. NOTE: Each student must complete an online entry form (including credits and a description which will be used in the event that the entry wins) and upload the corresponding images as part of this process. The School Group Submission Code is then used in the Payment Options to finalize their entry. Once all students have submitted their entries, please contact us with your School Group Submission Code, so that we can process your payment for the group.
