New work from Candybox Marketing
White Ribbon's Men don't want flowers
November 13, 2024
Candybox Marketing created this poignant campaign for White Ribbon, a global movement of men and boys working to end male violence against women and girls. It was formed by a group of pro-feminist in Toronto, Ontario, in November 1991 as a response to the École Polytechnique massacre of female students by Marc Lépine in 1989. The campaign raised close to $40,000.
Studies have shown that men who adhere to rigid, traditional masculine gender norms tend to condone and commit higher levels of gender-based violence, while men who are aware of their privilege may be less likely to use control and violence in their relationships.
As thought leaders in the primary prevention of gender-based violence, White Ribbon knows that challenging outdated stereotypes on gender is the first step towards ending misogyny, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, sexual exploitation, and all forms of gender-based violence and discrimination.
Through the Men Don’t Want Flowers campaign, Candybox called on men (including a former Canadian Football League All-Star) to discuss and challenge gender stereotypes, by engaging them in a conversation regarding flowers and their meaning in our culture.
The campaign will start with teaser videos on social media and then fully launch with an official Watch Party on November 12th where we’ll showcase the powerful campaign video, hear from participants, and explore the journey behind its creation.
This campaign will show we can all win by challenging outdated gender stereotypes.
