The 2024 Applied Arts Advertising Awards gallery is now live! Take a sneak peek at the 212 winning entries that rose to the top for our jurors. This year's winners represent a celebration of creative prowess but also a document showcasing the transitions and trends in the creative industry today.
"The best entries didn't just follow trends, they sparked conversations and brought fresh perspectives. I loved seeing work that gave a platform to stories we don’t hear enough and made important issues feel impossible to ignore."
Maxinne Abuyuan, Creative Partner & Founder, NewBrains, Toronto, ON.

This year's jurors were impressed by the creative ideas that took an experiential approach, combining traditional media with interactive experiences executed seamlessly across multiple applications. Judge Rena Menkes Hula, Group Creative Director, commented on advertising use of traditional media and how it is woven into interactive experiences that resonate with the target audience, "I was impressed to see a high number of entries that utilized non-traditional engagement thinking in the breadth of the work—from developing new product launches to using traditional media unexpectedly or interactively— agencies and brands realize how important it is to be with their target and not just stand in front of them."
"I giggled and I wasn't even high"
Mary Soroka, Global VP, Creative Director, Edelman, NY, on Angry Butterfly, Toronto ON's Next to Stok'd, a 7x category-winning entry.
The Applied Arts Awards Judging Process
The judges were divided into groups, each viewing and scoring a different and random group of entries over one round of judging. Each judge poured through the entries via our secure online judging system without consulting each other. The judges assigned one score to each entry based on creative merit, technical excellence and suitability for end use in the category it was submitted to
Each entry was judged independently on its own merit and did not rank or compare the entries in the same category. As for Applied Arts magazine, we have no predetermined quota of winners. For instance, should a category have no winners, it is then eliminated. In the instance where categories have multiple winners, we declare all entries above the cut-off score winners and publish them. The winners are not tiered (i.e., gold, silver, etc.); every entry above the cut-off score is given equal exposure as a winner.
"Love this! So smart to dramatize a feeling to the enth degree"
Rena Menkes Hula, Group Creative Director, Salt, Toronto, ON on Citizen Relations, Tax Anxiety is a Real Horror, Branded/Sponsored Content, Long format (over 3 minutes) for Intuit vs. TurboTax.
All the winners will be published in the Winter issue for page-turning inspiration and will be available to subscribers in December. The Winter issue is a double-Awards Annual with the 2024 Student Awards winners. Non-subscribers can subscribe to Applied Arts magazine for as little as $40 CAD* for two issues, or you can pre-order your single copy and have it shipped directly to you. The issue will also be available at select newsstands in January.
