New Work by Kelly Schykulski

June 3, 2015

Kelly Schykulski, an Edmonton-based illustrator repped by Colagene Creative Clinic, shares with us his series of 10 cover illustrations for Alberta Views magazine's Guides section, which highlight a particular resource in the province.

"I wanted images that were distinctly and uniquely Albertan, while still having a universal appeal that both locals and visitors could connect with," says Schykulski in an email to Applied Arts. "I built the illustrations on everything that aligned well, and left out anything that weakened or was redundant to the composition."

Schykulski used a Wacom tablet and Photoshop to create his images done in his trademark style, which he describes as "contemporary digital collage — an otherwordly brew sculpted and layered with symbols, colours, icons, textures, patterns and silhouettes."

Check out the rest of the illustrations below.
