Yataï is the name of the traveling stand in Japan, a tradition that dates back to the Edo period in the 1630s. The festival’s intention is to make Montrealers discover this facet of Japanese culture and the pleasures of Yataï. To deviate from the conventional representation of Japan, we meticulously selected 2 symbolic figures, the daruma and kitsune, to combine with quirky colors rather than typical reds but kept the gold as a subtle element of tradition and symbolism of prosperity.
