Cities in England, Mexico, Indonesia, and the U.S. are using titanium dioxide coatings on roadways and buildings to help absorb pollution. When exposed to daylight, these coatings start a photocatalytic reaction that absorbs airborne pollutants and breaks them down into inert compounds. Volkswagen found a new way to use titanium dioxide coatings – by creating a car cover for the all-electric ID.4 that absorbs airborne pollution.
