The Hiwa Recreation Centre connects to and reflects place, vertical movement, wellness, and culture. Floor markings denote path lines to the 1-km continuous vertical circuit. Each level has a marker indicating elevation height during the vertical climb. A gradient colour-field made of custom aluminium battens, captures a character-defining journey — from grotto, to volcanic peaks, to sky. Visible from the campus and city streets, the coloured core is a campus landmark that encourages movement.
