When I went to China, I saw lotus flowers everywhere. My journey back home allowed me to not only recognize how beautiful lotuses were but also to recognize the beauty of home. As a Chinese person born in Canada, I was proud to celebrate my roots. I explored this theme in this piece. I used a western illustration style to tell a story of my Chinese heritage. The most important symbol in this piece is the blooming lotus. Like a lotus, I slowly, but surely, opened up to my surroundings.
