My installation questions: if identity is the culmination of memory, who do we become when we forget? When I moved to LA after having grown up in Tokyo, I expected my memory of home to stay with me—only to realize that it was a shifting, fleeting thing, and too soon, out of reach. To capture this loss, I painted a scene from my childhood on post-its (traditionally used to remember things), and then blew them off an eight-foot wall. You could stand in it, feel its vastness, and then watch it fall apart.
