Titled, “Through the Glass, Softly” this series of two works is inspired by Walter Potter’s taxidermy and Michael Sowa’s portrait paintings of animals. Walter Potter arranges animals into anthropomorphic postures and recreates everyday scenes of the Victorian era, from a classroom to a wedding. Michael Sowa paints animals under soft lighting in classic portrait composition, making the animals appear rather solemn and detached. The series attempts to capture the essence of animal creatures.
