Twice a year, PEN Canada hosts an Ideas in Dialogue panel to discuss provocative topics while raising awareness of and funds for the organization’s work to defend free expression. For “Fighting Words”—a panel on the use of violence in literature and the responsibility of the author who uses it—our design playfully and subtly references the theme. The rooster is placed behind knocked-out type as a way of getting viewers to take a closer look.
