The layout can be read in both horizontal and vertical directions, with the text and images connected at any point of entry into the catalogue, thereby inviting the reader to position him/herself in relation to the page. With the exception of the essays, the text is the voice of the artist describing or narrating in various circumstances his analytical process. The first section of the catalogue is Tom Dean’s voice describing the burning and collecting, a text that is overlaid onto images of the ruins and fire to convey feeling as in a film script. The design strategy consisted of walking the reader through a field of ideas rather than leading him/her to specific images or content, to invite the reader to navigate through Tom Dean’s incredible world.
