The editors of Entertainment Weekly magazine and ZAAZ saw enormous potential for an iPad app, which would provide an easy, intuitive experience for consuming magazine content. More significantly, the app would easily incorporate e-commerce features, so that the magazine and its advertisers could realize revenue on the spot as users read, listened, and downloaded in real time. The app was an instant success, and became one of the top 20 free apps available on iTunes.
