Brampton Arts Organization's New Look!

Blok Design, a Toronto based design studio, states on their website: "We collaborate with thinkers and creators, from all over the world, taking on projects that blend cultural awareness, our love of art, and our belief in humanity to advance society and business alike." There is no question they stand by their statement, their work exemplifies their passion for Art and Design in all it's applications, have a look at their work here.

They shared their recent redesign work for the Brampton Arts Organization - an elegant colourful design we found arresting, artful and skilfully polished. Please read below their Q&A.

What was the goal?

BAO (Brampton Arts Organization) is a unique organization focused on advocating, amplifying and connecting the arts through a range of thoughtful programs and resources. Its identity had to reflect and honour the diversity of the artists and the multiplicity of visions living and working in place.

What were the challenges?

One of the challenges with this project was also one of its biggest opportunities — to give space to each artistic voice while holding the collective community. Rooted in place–with a pride that comes from being from Brampton–it was an honour to create a visual language that is expressive of the vibrancy and soulfulness of its community. We designed a dynamic, expansive identity that is extremely recognizable for its boldness in colour and form yet has elasticity to hold various visual languages. The logo itself is in constant movement, reflective of an organization that is consistently re-defining itself to its moment and origins.

Why was a re-design needed?

A re-design and new name were needed given the organization’s shift in vision and purpose. We had to ensure that both the city and the artists felt like they had an identity that was a true reflection of their creative impetus.

How did Blok approach the project?

From the beginning both BAO and Blok believed for this project to be successful it had to include a multiplicity of voices and visions. We decided to start this creative process by leading a strategic design workshop with the board as well as with the larger artistic community in Brampton. Listening to both groups share their thoughts about their city and their own artistic journeys with such spirit and sense of place was the guiding source of inspiration for the entire process.
