McMillan’s Simple Rebrand for the Complex World of Cybersecurity
March 22, 2021
McMillan uses bold simplicity to help cybersecurity specialists Opora stand out.
More often than not we find out about a crime long after it has occurred. We come home to our delivery package missing, we unlock our cars only to find glass on the seat, or we check our bank statement to find purchases of fifteen big screen TVs.
The unique feature of cybersecurity provider is that they stop cyberattacks before they even happen, so no financial statement with audiovisual irregularities signalling your first hint of cybercrime. Ottawa-based agency McMillan’s challenge was how do you convey the effectiveness of a system that sees what others can’t, that targets troublemakers, and encircles enemies. Their solution: a circle.
Utilizing one shape and one colour allowed for complicated concepts like adversary behaviour analytics to be conveyed clearly and with great impact. Moving away from the traditional symbology of the industry like shields and crosshairs, allowed Opora to have the solid austerity emblematic of a security service, but also a great amount of flexibility in brand application.
“We asked McMillan to help us create a brand that would completely set us apart from the ‘typical’ cybersecurity firm,” said Chris Bell, Opora CEO. “Our compelling value proposition needed a compelling brand to communicate it to our market, and that’s exactly what McMillan delivered.”
The well-worn aphorism goes “your best offence is a good defence,” and McMillan has designed a powerful brand for Oporoa’s better-than-good defence. For more on the rebrand click here.
