Brutal Postings on International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

Did you know that every 23 seconds, a homophobic or transphobic comment gets posted online?

Kudos to Rethink for their work with FondationEmergence on “Brutal Postings”, a social experiment highlighting the role of social media in promoting homophobia.  The stunt involved setting up a  display of 74 hateful posts from the last six years that can be found online as urban billboards.   The stunt campaign was supposed to last for several days but was neatly shut down by police within 20 minutes of receiving complaints.

Meanwhile, all those awful messages are still online. At a time when Facebook is (finally) making an effort to address hateful remarks, it is evident that the best way to resolve cyberhate is to report it. #ReportHaters
