Clare Chow is an independent designer that has had a truly enviable track record having collaborated at agencies such as lg2, Bruce Mau Design, Huge, Rethink, Puncture, and Jacknife. Her sterling CV represents a 14-year career that has spanned print, digital, branding, and editorial across a wide range of business and consumer audiences. We greatly appreciated Chow lending her wealth of experience and knowledge to this year’s Photography and Illustration Awards. To judge the best work, you have to get the best judges and Chow fits the bill.

A proud immigrant—Chow was born in Hong Kong and raised in Toronto—she brings a unique perspective to the industry with her passion for travel, food, and culture. This refined and worldly approach to design is reflected in the project Chow chose to highlight as a recent favourite.

While at lg2 in 2020, Chow was the designer and art director for the branding of cannabis newcomer Calla. As cannabis retail matures and becomes increasingly mainstream, the need to stand out among the cloud of cannabis companies becomes increasingly important.

With Calla, Chow and her team produced a beautifully restrained brand that feels elegant and utterly timeless. The brand appeals to lovers of quality: both design and BC weed. Light and airy, memorable and approachable, the design captures Calla’s call that they are “cannabis for all.”
