Photography & Illustration Awards judge Stefanie Sosiak is an award-winning Art Director for Air Canada enRoute magazine, as well as an avid traveller and food lover. Stefanie has over 15 years of design and content marketing experience in the industry. Along with being a co-founder of a boutique design studio, she's worked with renowned companies such as Cirque du Soleil and Matt & Nat.

We asked Stefanie to share a recent project that she was particularly proud of, and, perhaps unsurprisingly, it combines her passions for travel and food.

Help us tell the story of this recent project of yours you felt 'shone through.'

Air Canada’s enRoute’s food issue and Canada’s Best New Restaurants is something I and the enRoute team look forward to working on every year. We work far in advance for this issue as putting together Canada’s Best New Restaurants is a huge endeavour as a multi-platform program that includes print, video, social media, its own website, and an event (during non-Covid times).

What were some unique features of the campaign?

For Canada’s Best New Restaurants, we worked with Bobby León to produce videos of three of the winning restaurants. It was nice to see three female chefs at the helm of these businesses, there’s a growing shift in the industry which in the past was a predominately male profession.

Why is this particular project a fave?

I’m very passionate about food and wine so this is my favourite project to work on during the year. It’s great to work on something that has a direct positive impact on the restaurants we feature.

It was our first Canada’s Best New Restaurants issue since Covid, it was great to work on the program again and see how resilient and passionate the food industry is. I worked with Virginie Gosselin to photograph Tropikal, one of the winners of Canada’s Best New Restaurants. This photo shoot ended up being on the cover and also a winner for the Applied Arts Photography Awards! She has a great eye for food photography and a strong visual point of view. We really wanted a cover that popped this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary and the return of the program. She made that happen with the help of the amazing food and portrait of Chef Jae-Anthony from Tropikal.

We can’t thank Stefanie enough for sharing her time with us while judging the 2022 Photography & Illustration Awards entrants, and work that she is proud of. The project she chose demonstrates how enlivening work can be when you work on creative projects that you are passionate about. See more of Stefanie’s work on her Behance here.
