TURNING THE TABLE: TANYA DUFFY

Creative Director, Principal at New Brunswick The Details Design Studio and a 2022 Applied Arts Design Awards judge shared with us the new branding for The Capital Complex. After 20 years, the Capital Complex, located in Fredericton NB, was ready for a new iteration. As the beloved local music venue continued to grow, adding an on-site brewery and record shop to its offerings, it needed new branding to reflect its next act. The Details Design team came in with a full rebrand, including a bold new logo, brand identity design and a snappy new name: The Cap.

The new identity is flexible, incorporating multiple colours and punchy typography. And the one-colour version is easily applied to merchandise, signage and promotional materials, such as show posters. Long live The Cap!

Why is this particular project a fave?

This project is a personal favourite for our team because it's such an important place for the arts community. Our city is small but the music scene is fierce and we really wanted to give the venue an identity that spoke to its audience, could exist in any colour and could used in many ways. We get really excited when see people walking around sporting a shirt with the logo. It stands out.

Can you give us your opinion on what you think made this project a success?

Seeing the client being able to use this logo themselves without it looking bad! It was simple enough that they were able to take it and run with it for their own promotional tools.

Our thanks goes out to Tanya for lending us her expertise during the 2022 Applied Arts Design Awards judging process. We were delighted when she accepted our invitation to feature The CAP, The Details Design recent re-design project, on our blog post!
