TURNING THE TABLE: TEKO MAMALADZE

Teko MamaladzeTeko Mamaladze describes her home, Georgia, as "a country with big dreams" she is an Art Director that loves copywriting and likes to use humour to solve problems, "sometimes even in advertising." She shared her recent print campaign "Insomniafor the WWF, which also won Teko an Applied Arts Young Blood win in the 2021 Advertising Awards competition.

Can you give us some "peeks" behind-the-scenes?

The campaign title is insomnia — funny enough — it started with insomnia. While I was having trouble falling asleep, I tried the "counting sheep" method, which got me thinking about counting endangered animals and that it would not work for falling asleep because you would simply run out of them quickly. BAM! The whole idea was in front of me; I just had to make it happen.

Why is this particular project a fave?

I love this project the most because it is so simple and creative that you just need one look to understand all the depth of it, which is very challenging to achieve in advertising.

Can you give us your opinion on what you think made this project a success?

I think the reason it is so successful is that the whole idea is built on a very strong and widely known insight of counting sheep, and that's why people relate to it and love it so much at the very first sight.

What were some unique features of the campaign?

I would proudly say the simplicity in both: the idea and the execution.

What were the success stats or indicators?

This print campaign has already won in London's most prestigious portfolio festival "Cream" and also brought me 5 international awards, such as - the Golden Award of Montreux, NYX Awards, MUSE Creative Awards, Creativity International Awards, and of course the Applied Arts Awards - with the bonus opportunity of being a judge for Applied Arts 2022 Student Awards.

We appreciate Teko sharing this project with us as well as her time and expertise as a judge on our 2022 Student Awards jury panel!
