Yasemin Emory: Truly, One of A Kind
Giving a Creativity Icon a Creative Refresh
March 9, 2020
Yasemin Emory is Partner & Creative Director at Whitman Emorson in Toronto, ON
Yasemin Emory is the co-founder of Whitman Emorson [WE], a design studio in Toronto, where she directs the design team across all projects, from print to web, packaging to environmental design, and beyond. Before launching Whitman Emorson, Yasemin studied at Parsons School of Design in New York, and worked as an art director focused on magazines and cookbooks at Martha Stewart Omnimedia.
To have helped create and be at the helm of a young, award-winning team delivering such a diverse array of projects is what prompted us to invite Yasemin to be a judge in this year's Design Awards. We asked her to share a recent project with our readers, and from all the visual identities, packaging, signage and way-finding, books, magazines, exhibitions and more that she could have chosen, she sent us the rebrand for a Canadian creativity icon—the beloved One Of A Kind Show, that celebrates craft and artisans of all stripes. It's actually kind of metaphorical, as WE's founders and their work are equally creatively diverse. And, it's also timely (and perhaps that's what she intended), as the Spring 2020 Show is on March 25 - 29 in Toronto.
Here's Yasemin on this "one-of-a-kind" (sorry, we couldn't resist) project:
rebrand: One of a Kind Show
"Whitman Emorson created a vision and communications for One of a Kind, helping position the organization for the future by highlighting its mandate to promote and elevate craft. The logo mark WE created maintains beloved elements of the historic brand—an iconic thumbprint—while imbuing it with a fresh and unmistakably contemporary feel. The new identity reinvigorates the One of a Kind Show’s loyal, longstanding audience, while also capturing a new generation of visitors."
"WE has applied the new visual identity to a vast range of collateral, from photography to advertising to signage, and beyond. WE also continues to work in partnership with One of a Kind, supporting the show’s evolution by reimagining elements of the exhibitor and visitor experience."
