Women experiencing homelessness face an impossible decision: food, or tampons? The cheapest box of tampons is around $7 – putting them out of reach for many.To give homeless women round-the-clock access to free tampons, we took old newspaper boxes and rebuilt them with a custom dispensing mechanism. To preserve women’s dignity, we kept the boxes discreet by hiding them in plain sight with the name The Monthly. Shoppers Drug Mart then stocked them with tampons in at-risk neighbourhoods.
