These are scenes of Mauna Loa on Hawaii's Big Island, the largest active volcano in the world. It's a long, gruelling climb to the summit at nearly 14,000 ft, but Pele (the ancient Hawaiian volcano goddess) rewards with stunning views of neighbouring Mauna Kea, iron-saturated rock and vast, sweeping craters.
