The Namazu is a giant catfish in Japanese mythology that is said to live deep in the earth's oceans. According to legend, earthquakes occur in the mortal world when the god Kashima slays the giant catfish because the Namazu thrashes about in pain. Through this piece, I portrayed Namazu as a symbol of the unpredictability and power of nature.
