Ready at bat with Student Awards Judge Paulo Salomao
Lessons on How to prepare yourself to hit creative home runs
May 27, 2020
Paulo Salomao is an alumni of Toronto Film School, Humber College & OCADU, and currently Partner, Executive Creative Director at King Ursa in Toronto
And in just a few days Paulo will also be focussed on judging our Student Awards (deadline this Friday, May 22!). This Brazilian-born over-achiever is a powerhouse package of visual communications skills, entrepreneurial drive, and perpetual energy. That makes him a great choice for our jury and an awe-inspiring role model for students – our future creative leaders.
Actually, he’s also busy teaching some of these future leaders. Quoted as saying, “Love to guide the young generation,” Paulo runs an introduction to digital thinking program, in tandem with his business partner Eric Vieira, to 4th year advertising and post production students at Humber College. (Editor’s note to any Student Awards entrants: judges must abstain from voting on pieces from students with whom there may be a conflict of interest.)
And on the creative creds? Paulo is a passionate cross-platform thinker with a unique understanding of market trends and pop culture. He continuously looks to push the boundaries of his skillset, including film production, computer animation and front-end coding. Dissatisfied with the siloed status quo of large advertising agencies, Paulo and business partner Eric Vieira crafted a new model based on interdisciplinary collaboration, resulting in work that is "Strategically Grounded, Creatively UnleashedTM". That vision came to life in King Ursa, a full-service advertising agency with a client list that includes Moosehead Breweries, Timberland and Shopify. Focusing on end-to-end planning and production, King Ursa brings research and analysis, strategy, creative, content production and media all under one roof.
Never one to rest on his laurels, Paulo has most recently co-created the successful health and wellness brand One Academy, a multi-award winning business with a thriving community. Way more than an off-the-charts bricks and mortar gym and sold-out line of clothing, it's a growing Toronto-based health phenom. Here's a peek at that.
Ok, deep breaths now, please, before you try to top those creative RBIs.
